Why Coco Would Be Proud Of Karl…What We Can Learn From Karl?

The death of fashion great Karl Lagerfeld has brought sadness to the fashion world and beyond. For decades he wowed us all with the extraordinary creative vision and designs for the House Of Chanel. He is and always will be one of the most prolific icons of the modern age. He reinvented, took chances and pushed boundaries. He came into Chanel and defined it. When naysayers were thinking that Chanel was just about had it Karl took to it like bees to honey and he broke all boundaries. He had an incredible work ethic and this showed through in his work and all that he created and stood for. It wasn’t just about fashion but it was about life. The House Of Chanel remains the fore front of fashion luxury. Karl begun sketching when he was young and in his teenage years moved to Paris to study design and history. He loved illustrating and out of thousands he won a design contest that would change his life forever. He worked along side Pierre Balmain. There he worked hard and proved himself as a visionary and creator. This elevated him further and he became very well known in the industry. He was asked to take over the Chanel brand and bring it to new heights. He took it under his wings and turned it into a multi billion dollar business.

From a young age expectations were high. To be and also achieve. He took this all the way in his work and kept that exceptional standard throughout his life. He aimed high and achieved high. Karl didn’t have many friends in his younger years but that didn’t stop him focusing on what he loved. Infact, it made him more audacious and driven to do what he loved. He was a master creator. He didn’t take his eye off the prize. Learning from his death and looking back at his extraordinary legacy and the imprint of what he has done, it allows us to look at what we are doing and what we are passionate about. What legacy do we want to leave? Are we living our passion? Are we living our true calling? Are we giving it our all and taking chances?  We can learn the fundamentals of life just buy looking back at Kar’ls. He thrived by doing what he loved. He was steadfast and passionate. What an incredible body of work. A Chanel piece is not only art but it is an investment for life. It goes to show that no matter your upbringing and childhood. No matter what obstacles are in front of you and no matter the short comings use those as tools to push harder and make something better. See obstacles as reasons and opportunities to change. Karl’s history at Chanel is a prime example of a person living his passion through hard work, love and dedication. It is rewarding on all levels. In particular on a soul level. Karl did once say that if he retired he would die. He passed doing what he loved. How fitting just in time for Paris fashion week. RIP Karl Lagerfeld. Thank you for the vision, the art, the fashion, the dream and the legacy.
