23 Jan Why Gratitude Is Important
It a world where people are stressed, time poor and feel like life and things ‘happen’ to them it has never been more pivotal and important to our own selves to be grateful for the things we do have rather than focus on the things we don’t have and the things that aren’t going so well. It can be something we easily can forget to do as our day to day lives take centre stage and we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of things. The act of being grateful doesn’t have to be epic and grand. It doesn’t have to take hours. But if you could just stop for five minutes everyday, whether it be in the morning, during the day or at night before you go to bed, and say all the things you are grateful for and what you are happy about then that puts you in a state of contentment. Everyone has something. That’s just life. But there is always something to be grateful for. Gratitude even for the smallest things makes you feel good. It plays an important role in our well being. It puts you in a state of readiness to receive more, to be happy and to attract positive things to your life. You feel more connected to life and people. There is such a thing now as a gratitude journal. People keep entering things as the day goes. Its a good practise to cultivate. Its hard to feel grateful and be in a state of thankfulness when things aren’t going well in life and one faces challenges. But even then you must keep the faith and be grateful. There is always one thing. We can always try and find a silver lining in things. Sometimes the most painful experiences can be blessings in disguise. Life works in mysterious ways. It doesn’t have to be material things that you have to be grateful for. It could be the most simplest of things like the sun shining or the lovely meal your eating or that latte you had. It all matters. The best things in life are free. This has been said many times before. If you can get into the habit of giving thanks and being grateful in the hard times then it may help make that period of time a little less harder and it may help you through it. It is a form of positive psychology that when you cultivate and express gratitude it elevates a level of optimism and increased energy. So what are you grateful for today?
