IF THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

IF THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

This poem below was written by a prisoner who was awaiting execution. It seems fitting in many ways, which ever you wish to interpret and also when you look closely at the words. We are so busy sometimes that we loose the very essence that matters. Our true selves. We get so caught up with pleasing others to get acceptance when really we should be doing it for ourselves. Self love, self worth, self acceptance must be a priority. Being what others want you to be or what you think you should be in order to be accepted doesn’t allow you to be your authentic self. Its amazing how someone who was awaiting to die for his punishment wrote the most profound poem. He actually got the meaning of life as he was about to lose it.

– When you get what you want in the struggle for self and the world makes you king for the day. Then go to the mirror and look at yourself and see what that man has to say. For it isn’t a mans father, mother or wife who’s judgement upon him must pass. The fellow who’s verdict counts most in life is the man staring back from the glass. He’s the fellow to please, never mind all the rest for he is with you clear up to the end. And you’ve past your most difficult dangerous test, if the man in the glass is your friend.

You can fool the world down the pathway for years and get pats on the back as you pass. But your final reward will be heartache and tears if you’ve cheated the man in the glass.
