06 Jan Why We Always go for the Cute Bastard
We have all been here. Hell we probably have been there too many times. At a bar, the stares, the looks that could kill. He looks alluring, aloof and beings to either flirt or do something that kind of irritates you, like talk to another girl, ignore you or if he does approach he is cheeky, flirty but stand off- ish at the same time. Why do we seem to want to know more? What’s the pull that they seem to have on us. The mystery, the should I- could I thinking? Why is it that they seem to get us? The more they being to be a little cold the more we want. Is it because it’s just how they are or is it because they know how to play the game. We are attracted to them for their charm, their Mr Big-esque presence. But for a moment they seem keen but the next they stand back. Why do we somehow fall for the cute bastards? We love them on TV. How is it that these men became the apple of many women’s eyes…and loins ( Gulp!)? Do we love the game as well?..…Maybe so. Why does the thrill of the chase actually, dare I say it, work? Did Tom and Jerry have it right? Is it a cat and mouse game when it comes to Love?
It’s not always as clean cut as it probably used to be. Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy has the guts to approach and ask her out. Much to her delight in attention and approach to a date she says yes. There you have it. Not quite so now a days it seems. Now with digital age and sex being so freely available to us, those easy and clear approaches have sort of lost its way. For some, who are lucky enough, it still is simple. But for many it’s not. Not without the ‘game,’ the attitude. What’s his agenda? Does cute bastard have a line of girls after him? The more cold they behave at times the more we want to know. Visa Versa of course. Looks a lot but attitude questionable.
Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl, Mr Big on Sex & the City, Don Draper on Mad Men and Ari Gold on Entourage are some of the Cute Bastards that have graced us via the television much to many women’s delight. Somehow we could never get enough. Me thinks we probably never will.
